Performance Barefoot Trimming

A healthy hoof is a beautiful thing - and not as difficult to achieve as you might think!  A sound, hoof is capable of supporting and carrying the horse through any athletic maneuver the horse can do, including trail riding, jumping, dressage, eventing, endurance, cow work, and barrel racing, among others.

The horse's capacity to heal him/herself is amazing. With correct trimming, nutrition, and movement, your horse's hooves can show remarkable improvement within a relatively short time.

Most common problems, some life threatening and deemed "incurable" with conventional hoof care, are "curable" with proper trimming.  Except in extreme cases, horses with navicular, ringbone, sidebone, founder, laminitis, white line, cracks, flares, etc. CAN become sound and rideable again.  Even extreme cases can be made much more comfortable with proper trimming and lifestyle.

For those horses whose feet do require extra protection, a composite shoeing package comprised of dental impression material (DIM), an Epona or EasyShoe, and glue may greatly increase your horse's comfort level and add many more years of riding enjoyment.

The first session with you and your horse is spent evaluating your horse's feet and your goals.  In that evaluation, we will look at your horse's movement, lifestyle, hooves, and conformation.  A basic first trim will be done, with a follow-up trim scheduled for two weeks later. Usually, after that second trim, further appointments are scheduled in four-week intervals.  In rehab cases, it may be recommended that a touch-up trim be done every two weeks.

If you are interested in learning how to trim yourself, I will work with you towards that goal as well.

I am now offering Glue-On Shoe services (Eponas and Easy Shoes) for those horses who need more protection than the bare hoof can offer, as well as hoof casting.
