I have been using Shira as my mare's trimmer for a year now. My mare had started the barefoot journey with another trimmer six months prior to using Shira. His work was excellent, but he had to leave the area. Thus I was left with a 19 year old, mildly arthritic TB half way through the process. I found Shira's website and was immediately drawn to her approach and philosophy with horses. The first appointment was unreal, but in a good way. She asked me tons of questions about my horse, took before and after trim pictures, and had me move her several times. Her attention to detail was amazing. My mare, who is normally somewhat indifferent to people she doesn't know, REALLY liked Shira's trimming. Now, a year later, she nuzzles Shira, and readily lifts feet. Like all horses, my mare occasionally has moments, and Shira handles those with a firm but gentle hand, asking for respect without being abusive or mean. In addition to her excellent trimming and horsemanship skills, Shira is a wealth of knowledge about equine nutrition, body balance and well being. To summarize: Though Shira trims the hooves, she serves the whole horse and in turn, the owner.

Shira has such a wonderful bond with horses and people. She has amazed me so much with all of her knowledge. Before I met her, my 21yo Sulfolk Punch Draft horse, Sera, had a rough coat and poor hooves - in short, she was a mess. With advice from Shira and other natural horsemen/women, along with a lot of research, we gradually changed Sera over to a clean diet. Thanks to the diet change and the way Shira worked with her feet, this originally pokey horse now walks, trots, canters, and even throws a good buck now and than. Shira has also taught us some wonderful horsemanship games to build more trust and increase the bond between human and horse, so now Sera is not just acting young and looking young, but she is so respectful I can trust her on a lead with my four year old son under supervision. Thank you, Shira, for all the wonderful memories. I wish I could have met you when I was younger and shown the correct way to talk to my horses. I'm blessed to have met you. You have changed my horse's and my lives together for ever! I hope you can touch may more lives - human and horse!
