Nutrition is a vital part of what we all need to stay healthy. And yet, there is an amazing amount of mis-information out there on what good nutrition is! Here are some simple guidelines:
1. Eat and feed REAL food! If it has more than 5 ingredients, if you can't pronounce some of them, or if you don't know what they are, it may not be real.
2. A healthy gut promotes a healthy body. The gut is the seat of your health. A good probiotic is essential for horses, dogs, cats, and even humans for optimal digestion.
3. Don't just take "common knowledge" and "conventional wisdom" for granted when it comes to yourself or your animals. There are a lot of myths disguised as facts out there, and many of them will not benefit your animal or your wallet - and, in fact, may do harm instead.
When it comes to food, simpler is generally better. If you, your horse, dog, or cat has skin conditions, an unhealthy coat, poor hoof quality, respiratory problems, or a poor immune system, more than likely the gut is not reacting well to something that is being ingested. Sweet itch, heaves, itchy or flaky skin and constant battles with illnesses can all be positively or negatively affected with nutrition.
